Did you know that worldwide, 3.3 billion gallons of ice cream are consumed every year?
That’s enough to fill 5,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
If you would like to enjoy a scoop, some of the best ice cream in Kansas City can be found at these shops:
Westport Ice Cream Bakery
Westport is a small, family-owned business that handcrafts their ice cream with pride. The Engravalles create the flavors in small batches using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. They offer free samples, and the choices range from traditional to innovative. Customers will enjoy the friendly service, large portions, and color-changing spoons. The flavors rotate and may include unicorn, salted honey, and blueberry cheesecake.
Glace Artisan Ice Cream
Glace boasts that it’s “Where Joy Freezes Over.” Founder Christopher Elbow is Kansas City’s premier chocolate maker, and he has also worked for Emeril Lagasse and the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. Christopher believes that ice cream should be all-natural, and their hormone-free milk comes from local cows. The menu features both signature flavors and new ones that are added weekly. Choices include banana caramel, toasted coconut, and peanut butter chocolate swirl.
Betty Rae’s Ice Cream
Called an Ice Cream Shop Worth Traveling For, Betty Rae’s is not to be missed. Owners David and Mary met in college, and ice cream has always been a part of their relationship. They both worked in a parlor, and David later created his own recipes. When the couple decided to share his creations, Betty Rae’s was born. The shop is named for David’s grandmother, who enjoyed the sweeter side of life. There are over 25 homemade flavors, with choices including passion fruit creamsicle, vanilla bean, and lemon poppyseed cake.
