Blue River Parkway Trail
This shady and well-marked trail loops around the banks of the Blue River, providing beautiful views and a peaceful environment. You can begin the trail at Minor Park and follow it north past Alex George Lake. The full walk is almost 5.5 miles and some portions are paved with asphalt or concrete. Beginners will do very well on this relatively easy hike, and the Blue River Parkway Trail is also great for mountain bikers. Dogs are welcome!
Old Kate Trail
This short and sweet trail is less than a mile long but it’s one of the highlights of visiting the Parkville Nature Sanctuary. The Old Kate Trail leads to a beautiful waterfall. There’s also a wooden boardwalk to cross, providing scenic views of the surrounding forest and a small stream. This tranquil reserve is ideal for birdwatching and taking in beautiful views. There’s also plenty of benches located along the trail if you want to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
Maple Woods Natural Area Trail
Begin this mile-long hike by walking across a footbridge and then following a small creek. The Maple Woods Natural Area trail passes by some residential areas, yet it still feels secluded and immersed in nature. You might spot whitetail deer or other wildlife while walking through old-growth timber. This is an unpaved, natural trail that does have some rocks, exposed roots, and small, downed trees. But it’s still a moderately easy walk for most hikers.
Taking the time to connect with nature can be incredibly enjoyable, whether it’s on one of these Kansas City trails or a virtual trip to the zoo. Learn more about City Place at Westport by contacting us today.Back to all posts
